Before
During the spring of 2022, I treated a portion of a donated canvas painting at the University of Delaware. The painting was used to practice inpainting losses, as such, it had been previously consolidated so controlled losses and abrasions could be created with a scalpel.
During
To inpaint the painting's losses, I used Mineral Spirit Acrylic paints diluted in mineral spirits and a PVA dispersion gloss medium. First, an initial color match was laid down on the loss, then the PVA medium was added to the mixed paints and applied on top to match the gloss of the painting.
After
After inpainting, the portion of this painting has regained its aesthetic appearance from the controlled losses; however, the previous damages to the painting were not addressed during this treatment.

To inpaint the painting's dark spots, I used Mineral Spirit Acrylic paints diluted in mineral spirits and a PVA dispersion gloss medium. To counteract the turbid medium effect, a warmer, lighter color was mixed with the PVA medium and applied translucently over the dark spots.
After
After treatment, this portion of the oil canvas painting regained its aesthetic appearance from the dark spots; however, any previous condition issues were not addressed during this treatment.
