Internship at the Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum 

In this role, I worked closely with the Collections Manager to carry out preventive care and documentation for a rich and historic quilt collection. I contributed to a minor conservation treatment of an 18th-century Broderie Perse quilt, applying nylon netting to stabilize deteriorating fabric affected by iron oxide dye corrosion. To support preventive conservation, I rotated and refolded quilts in line with the museum’s schedule, helping to mitigate fabric stress and light damage. I also assisted in identifying and cataloging quilts by accession number, and applied knowledge of historic textile identification to aid in dating materials. This experience deepened my understanding of the materials science behind textiles, while also enhancing my skills in collection organization and exhibition support. I participated in exhibit installation and takedown, gaining first-hand experience with display logistics, object mounting, and interpretive planning in a textile-focused institution.
